The Global #WomensWave is Coming to Sacramento 1-19-19

Sacramento among 3rd Annual Women’s March events to be held globally in 2019

SACRAMENTO, CA -- On January 19, 2019, women, femmes and allies of all backgrounds will march on the CA State Capitol to commemorate the record setting 2017 Women’s March on Washington. This year, Women's March Sacramento (WMS) reintroduces itself to the community as an independent event that has aligned itself with the Women’s March Global initiatives to end violence against ALL women.

Under new leadership, Women’s March Sacramento looks to re-establish itself as an inclusive, diverse, flexible, transparent event dedicated to inspiring community service. They seek to support advocacy and resistance movements that reflect multiple and intersecting identities and further the efforts of Women’s March Global.

Women's March Sacramento is committed to advancing this ideal through the relaunching of the H.E.R.S Framework and the UNITE inspired “16 Days of Global” Campaign.

H.E.R.S. stands for Health, Economic security, Representation, and Safety.  The “16 Days” campaign centers around survival of 16 instances of violence that our sisters face around the globe on a daily basis. WMS organizers plan to amplify this campaign for the sixteen days leading up to the event at the Capitol.

The Women's March Sacramento website explains, “This powerful message of solidarity among women resonated with us so profoundly that we’re asking our local community to join us in amplifying and uplifting the Women's March Global initiatives and join the Women’s March Sacramento event in our ongoing campaign to #EndViolenceAgainstWomen.

In the wake of the 2018 midterms that propelled an unprecedented wave of women to Congress, “Women's March Sacramento organizers plan to use this opportunity to celebrate the many local candidates who ran in 2018 and organizations who align with our Women's March Global framework and initiatives with the upcoming 2019 Sacramento Women’s March on the Capitol on January 19th, 2019”, said WMS lead grassroots organizer, Scarlette Bustos.
